The GR54 is one of the finest mountain walks in Europe. It is approximately 193km in length with 12,800m of ascent. 14 mountain passes are crossed. The Ecrins Massif is the highest range of mountains in France outside of the Mont Blanc Massif.
Created in 1973 the Ecrins National Park (ENP) contains more than 150 peaks exceeding 3000m and 10,000 hectares of glaciers. The highest peak is the Barre des Ecrins (4102m).
The GR54 is described as, 'the most untamed of all, and the most difficult'.
